Tennessee Has One of the Cleanest Dumpster Rental Markets in America. Here's the Data.
Only 7.2% of Tennessee's 166 dumpster rental listings on Google have no reviews, well under the 9.5% national rate. Memphis and Franklin have none. Here's what a healthy market looks like, and where the gaps are.
Tennessee Has One of the Cleanest Dumpster Rental Markets in America
Corrected October 2026. An earlier version of this post called 11.4% of Tennessee listings "ghost listings". That number counted companies rated under 3 stars, while the national figure we compared it with didn't. On a like-for-like basis Tennessee's rate is 7.2%, below the national average, which turns out to be the real story.
Not every state has a listings problem. Tennessee mostly doesn't.
Of 166 dumpster rental listings Google showed for Tennessee in April 2026, only 12 have no reviews. That's 7.2%, against 9.5% nationally. Tennessee ranks 23rd of 37 states, in the cleaner half of the country.

Nashville has the most empty listings, 3 of 20. That's typical of a fast-growing city: new companies arrive faster than they collect reviews. Clarksville and Murfreesboro, both growing suburbs, have the most low-rated listings.
Memphis has fewer listings than you'd expect
Memphis is Tennessee's second-largest city, but Google showed only 9 dumpster rental listings there, half as many as Knoxville. All nine have reviews and none is rated under 3 stars. The flip side is less choice and less competition on price. Get at least three quotes.

Seventy-three Tennessee companies combine 4.5 stars or better with at least 25 reviews. The top five by DCS Score:

Even in a clean market
A low empty-listing rate doesn't make every company a good one. The usual checks still apply:
- Get the weight allowance in writing, plus the price per ton over it.
- Ask how long the rental runs and what each extra day costs.
- Check what the landfill won't take. Mattresses, tires and appliances often cost extra.
Method
Google Places data, April 2026, 6,304 listings nationwide. "No reviews" means zero reviews or no star rating. "Under 3 stars" means at least one review and an average below 3.0. Rankings include the 37 states with 40 or more listings. The [DCS Score](/methodology) is a 100-point rating from public data. No company pays for placement.
